At PRO Investment Management, we believe you have opportunities to outperform the market in the long run by taking advantage of certain opportunities presented in the domestic and global markets. By using cost-effective investment vehicles, PRO Investment Management's approach is designed to be more cost effective than traditional allocation methods, yet offer less risk than the overall market.

We use Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) which are similar to mutual funds as both invest in a large number of stocks or bonds to give investors instant diversification. However, ETFs typically carry lower management fees than mutual funds and as the name implies, ETFs trade on an exchange. With mutual funds, you must buy the shares through the fund company- direct or through your broker.

Because ETFs trade on an exchange, there are benefits presented that are not available with mutual funds:

  • Investors can buy and sell shares of ETFs during the trading day rather than having to wait until the end of the day for the Net Asset Value to be calculated like they do with mutual funds

  • ETFs are traded on exchanges, many of them are available for short selling and many have options traded on them.  You can’t trade options on open-ended mutual funds nor are you able to sell them short.

  • Most ETFs are pegged to indexes or sectors, as a result they are not as actively managed as mutual funds.  Due to lower activity the management fees on ETFs tend to be much lower than on mutual funds.  According to an article on CNBC, the average expense ratio for an equity mutual fund is 1.57% and for an ETF it is just 0.54%.  The ratio is even greater on fixed income funds (0.99% vs. 0.25%).

By using a blend of equity and fixed income ETFs, we believe we can strike an appropriate balance for each client's unique profile and by making adjustments according to market conditions. We also use option strategies to add income and to protect client assets.
